Are Machu Picchu tickets refundable?

Unfortunately, Machu Picchu tickets are generally non-refundable. Once you purchase a ticket for a specific date and time, you are locked into that schedule. If you need to cancel your trip to Machu Picchu, you will not be able to get a refund on the ticket price.

The non-refundable policy applies to all Machu Picchu ticket types, including Machu Picchu-only tickets as well as combined tickets like the Classic Inca Trail pass. The reason for the strict policy is that visitor access to Machu Picchu is highly controlled and limited per day, so your ticket is essentially reserving your spot to enter. If you cancel, it is unlikely that the spot can be refilled at the last minute.

There are a few exceptions. If the Peruvian government decides to close Machu Picchu unexpectedly for safety reasons, you may be able to get a refund or reschedule your visit. Also, if you purchased your Machu Picchu ticket through a licensed tour group or travel agency, you may be able to get a partial refund through their cancellation policies. But in general, individual Machu Picchu tickets bought online are non-refundable, so make sure your travel plans are set before booking!

I’ve been trying for three weeks to buy Machu Picchu tickets for our family. I’m able to place the order for the two adults, but the website strikes through the reservations for our three children (minors). I’ve emailed three times with callcenter@culturacusco.gob.pe for help. The woman answers my email messages quickly, but still does not understand my problem. I don’t have the language skills to write her in Spanish. Do you have any solutions to offer?

By the way, I’ve tried entering the children as students, but the drop down menu does not allow me to put in accurate birth years. I don’t want to enter the wrong information and then be denied at the gates.

Hi, do they release the same amount of tickets in short notice at the office in Cusco, as in the one in Aguas Calientes?
